Identification of bearing failure in composite-aluminium bolted joints using digital image correlation

چکیده
The quasistatic failure of composite-aluminium bolted joints is investigated experimentally using the stereo Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique. Single-shear, two-bolt lap made carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates and aluminium plates are subjected to tensile load while being monitored stereo-DIC. measured displacements processed by removing outliers Grubbs test reducing noise exploiting symmetries specimen geometry. development Gauss curvature across CFRP computed from DIC displacement data, a sudden onset in vicinity bolts observed as precursor bearing failure. Fractographs cross-sections partially failed near confirm compressive damage source this localised curvature. We conclude that stereo-DIC useful non-contact measurement initiation.

in the bonded region. Nevertheless, they may suffer due to the presence of defects in bond line and at the interface or due to improper curing process. While defects like voids, cracks and delaminations present in the adhesive bond line may be detected using different NDE methods, interfacial defects in the form of kissing bond may go undetected. Attempts using advanced ultrasonic methods like ...
متن کاملIdentification of Bolted Joints through Laser Vibrometry
We present a new technique for identifying the dynamics of bolted joints. The technique relies on the comparison of the overall dynamics of the bolted structure to that of a similar but unbolted one. The di!erence in the dynamics of the two systems can be attributed solely to the joint; modelling this di!erence in the dynamics enables us to construct a non-parametric model for the joint dynamic...

In this study, analytical models considering different material and geometry for both single and double-lap bolted joints were reviewed for better understand how to select the proper model for a particular application. The survey indicades that the analytic models selected for the adhesively single or double bolted lap joints, as well as T, scarf, and stepped joints, with linear material pr...

Mechanical fasteners especially bolting is commonly used in joining carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite structures due to their good joinability and easy for maintenance characteristics. Since this approach involves with notching, a proper progressive damage model (PDM) need to be implemented and verified to capture existence of damages in the structure. A three dimensional (3D) fa...

Composites are being used extensively in several engineering applications. However, the efficiency of the joints used in joining composites and metals can be improved. To move towards a sustainable and environment friendly future, natural fibre composite material was used. Towards the above objective, research work was carried out for the assembly between a composite and aluminium. Three differ...
